MINUTES OF GROUP EXECUTIVE

HELD ON THURSDAY 23rd April 2009

IN FAIRMILEHEAD CHURCH HALL

Present- Mr, Graham, Mr. Clark, Mr Gruber, Mr Morrison, Mr Hill, Mr Thomson, Mr Galloway, Mrs, Mortimer, Mrs. MacKenzie and Mrs Elder

 

1.         Apologies- Mr. Wardrop, Mr. S Walton

 

2.         Minutes of last meeting. Approved.

 

3.          Matters Arising- Annette approached 2 people about managing the web site; unfortunately neither felt they had the necessary experience to do the job.

 

4.                  Treasurers Report-The group should have a surplus of £1300 at the end of the       session after the remaining accounts have been paid. The group have now received the monies from the Royal Bank, which had been moved to a Dormant account. The Gift Aid rebate for the year has still to be received.

 

 

5.       Subscriptions- All the subs have now been paid. Next year the group must make a better effort to get the subs from any new boys joining the group during the year.

 

6.       Fees- In previous years the group has given a contribution to the church for the use of the halls, from September 2009 the church have put in place a more formal arrangement by charging the group an hourly rate of £5.50 giving us a block booking reduction from the normal rate of £11.00.  This rate will be reviewed each year with an annual increase of around the inflation rate. Due to this increase it is necessary to raise the annual subscriptions to £50 for Beavers, £55 for Cubs and £60 for Scouts. In previous years a £5.00 reduction was given to families paying on the night of registration and this will no longer be happening. To compensate we will introduce the option of paying by monthly standing order over a period of 5 instalments starting in October 2009. This change will be announced at the AGM and letters will also be sent to the parents along with the Registration Documents.

 

7.       Group AGM- This will be held on the 25th June at 7pm. Each section will make a short review of the year. The Executive will also make a presentation on how the money is spent. It is hoped to have an “X FACTOR” type form of entertainment.  

 

 

8.          Section reports-

 

          GSL- The annual Census showed that the group has 137 boys and 16 warranted leaders, a small increase on last year.

 

          SL- The Young Scout camp at the beginning of May will be held at Bonaly Scout Centre. The venue for summer camp has still to be decided. 

 

          Castlelaw-  5 boys are going to the camp in May. A visit to Longcraig sailing centre has been arranged for June. The pack came 2nd in the District swimming Gala.

 

          Scaldlaw- The pack won the District swimming gala. The boys are having a visit to Longcraig swimming centre in June. Unfortunately the pack has no boys attending the May camp. It is hoped to take some of the pack to the District pack holiday in October.

 

          Beaver Colonies- no report.

 

9.       AOB- Colin Gruber is preparing an information board for the church foyer. The section notice boards will have work done on them over the summer. The dates for the next year’s meetings are- 3rd September, 12th November, 4th February 2010 22nd April 2010. The date of the AGM 17th June still to-be confirmed.
