MINUTES OF GROUP EXECUTIVE

HELD ON THURSDAY 6th November 2008

IN FAIRMILEHEAD CHURCH HALL

Present- R.Hill, A. Wardrop, R. Galloway, M. Brickell, T.Clark A. Morrison. Mrs A.          MacKenzie, Mrs. M. Mortimer, Mrs. J. Elder and Mrs. M. Burrows  Morningside District Commissioner

 

1.         Apologies Mr. A. MacKenzie, Mr A. Walton

 

2.         Minutes of last meeting. Adopted.

 

3.          Matters Arising- Covered in agenda.

 

4.         Treasurers Report- Accounts in a healthy position.   

 

5.          Subscriptions-   The subs have been successfully collected with only 18 boys          

still to pay, reminder letters were sent out on the 6th November. Enquiries have  been made about the setting up of a Standing Order system; Alan Wardrop explained how his Rugby Club used the s/o system allowing payment over a  maximum period of 6 months. The idea has been adopted in principle and will discuss further at the April Meeting.

 

6.          Hall Charging-   The group has had no written response from the Church and understands that the subject is still being discussed. We agreed to discuss the  topic further when the need arises.

 

7.         Scout Post- Collections will be held from Wednesday 3rd December until     Monday 8th December. Committee members volunteered to help at the Sorting Office at the Gyle. Dan will collect the stamps etc from Valleyfield Street.

 

8.         Leader Recruitment- The Exec. Had a meeting with the Section leaders to discuss leaders and section equipment. The consensus was that each section was working well with the leaders we have at present. It was felt that the Group needed a Group Scout Leader and this is being looked into by District.

The beavers are looking into buying a parachute and Scaldlaw are looking to purchase football strips. The Scout section has purchased new tents and has ordered a Fire shelter.

 

 

9.          Section reports-

 

             GSL no report.

 

SL- District flag had been held at Bonaly. The group took part in the Keilder              Regatta and came second surviving a wet and snowy Saturday, A visit to the Gang show has been arranged.

 

Castlelaw.  Pack holiday had been held in September having the theme of the         Space Olympics and the boys completed their Scientist badge. 12 boys had taken part in a visit to the Time Capsule and a team has been entered for the District football.

 

             Scaldlaw- no report.

 

             Beaver Colonies no report.

 

9.          AOB  Mrs Burrows presented Tom Clark with a 15 year service award for his work as Group Treasurer and a Chief Scout Commendation for good service.
